The Lines and Spaces of the Staff
Remember, there are five lines and four spaces. On the Treble Clef Staff, we start at the bottom line
and work to the top line. The lines are E-G-B-D-F. Try to remember the sayings (mnemonics) we
learned in class such as
Every Good Boy Deserves Fudge and
Even George Bush Drives Fast.
For the spaces, we start in the bottom space and spell the word F-A-C-E. Remeber, Every
staff has a face, and you'll find it in the space!
Put it all together and the lines and spaces combined are
E-F-G-A-B-C-D-E-F.
